About Placement Tests

Steps to Prepare for and Take the Placement Tests

Step 1: Submit an application to Ohlone College

Students need to submit an application to Admissions and Records. The application can be completed online, downloaded in PDF form from the Admissions and Records website, or located in the printed version of the Class Schedule (available from the Ohlone College Bookstore).

Step 2: Review Important Information

  • These two items are required!
    • Bring a photo ID
    • Bring your Ohlone College Student ID Number
  • Testing is offered free of charge
  • The entire testing process will take approximately 2 hours to complete both English and Math tests

Step 3: Arrive early to the test

  • The Placement Center (Room 1405A) can accommodate 30 students at one time.
  • Testing is done on a first come, first served basis.
  • Students must arrive at the Placement Center to start the test during open hours.
  • All tests are computerized and not timed.
  • Be sure to bring a photo ID and your Ohlone Student ID#.

Step 4: Decide if it is necessary for you to take a placement test

Please refer Exemption from Placement Testing.

Step 5: Determine when you can take the tests

Plan to take the test at the earliest possible date. Test sessions closer to the beginning of the term are usually more crowded - availability is limited to the Placement Center open hours and 30 computer stations. Please refer to the testing schedule.

Any changes and/or additional open hours will be posted online.

Step 6: Review the study guides

Students may review the study guides available online.
