Placement Testing Waivers - Placement Testing Center

Students may waive placement testing if they have taken specific college level courses or accepted placement tests from other schools.

Waiver based on Completed Coursework

Completion of a college-level math or English course at an accredited college or university in the U.S. and received a grade of "C" or better.

  • Visit the Counseling Department
  • Bring a copy of your college transcript.
  • Counselor will evaluate your request and give you an English and/or math placement if appropriate.

Waiver based on Placement Test Results

Ohlone College accepts English and math placement test results from other California Community Colleges when possible, and results from the California Chemistry Diagnostic Test.

  • Visit the Counseling Department
  • Bring a copy of your test results.
  • Counselor will evaluate your request and issue a placement testing waiver if appropriate.

Waiver based on Advanced Placement (AP) Exam Results

Students may be issued a waiver from the English and/or math placement tests if they received a 3 or better on the appropriate English or math AP exam.

  • Visit the Counseling Department
  • Bring a copy of your original AP test results.
  • Counselor will evaluate your request and issue a placement testing waiver if appropriate.

Waiver based on Early Assessment Program (EAP) results & Expository Reading and Writing Course (ERWC)

Ohlone College accepts qualifying EAP test results to clear students into English 101A and math courses with a prerequisite of Math 152.

Students can be cleared to enroll in English 101A, if their EAP test result states "Ready for CSU or participating CCC college-level English courses". If students receive a “Ready for CSU or participating CCC college-level English course – Conditional”, they need to also have completed with a grade of "C" or better an Expository Reading and Writing Course (ERWC) in their 12th grade at a California public high school in order to be cleared to enroll in English 101A.

Students can be cleared for Math 156, 159, 163, 166, 167, or 181 if their EAP test result states "Ready for CSU or participating CCC college-level math courses".

  • Visit the Placement Testing Center
  • Bring a copy of your EAP results and a high school transcript (unofficial is acceptable).
  • Placement Testing Staff will evaluate your request and issue a placement testing waiver if appropriate.
