President Search Progress Report #4
Dated: April 24, 2008.
I am pleased to relay to you that the Ohlone College Board of Trustees has concluded its search for our new President at Ohlone College. The Board has made an offer to Dr. Gari Browning and she has graciously accepted. Although the Board felt that all of the finalists were highly qualified, the Board believes that Dr. Browning is the best fit for Ohlone College at this time.
Dr. Browning has a wealth of experience as a senior community college official. She comes to us from the College of the Desert where she currently serves as their Chief Instructional Officer. Prior to her current assignment, she served with the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). She earned a Bachelors degree in Linguistics from UC Irvine, a Masters degree in Teaching English as a Second Language from UCLA, and a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics from UCLA.
We all look forward to working with Dr. Browning to build upon the great work of President Doug Treadway, who has moved Ohlone College forward in many significant ways during his five-year tenure.
We would like to acknowledge Dr. Pam Fisher of our search firm, the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT), for her efforts during this process. And finally, I would like to again thank all members of the search committee who have given generously of their time during this process. The committee brought forward excellent candidates, one of whom ultimately has become the next President/Superintendent of Ohlone College.
Garrett Yee
President,
Ohlone College Board of Trustees
