Hands Free Operation of Cell Phones - Campus Police Services / Safety and Security
The State of California passed a law regarding mandatory "Hands Free" use of a cellular or other communications device that went into effect in 2007. The legislation called for a delayed implementation in order to allow the motoring public to prepare for and adjust to the new law. Enforcement of the "hands free operation" law will begin on July 1, 2008.
The Ohlone Community College District fully supports this new law. All students and employees are required to be in compliance with the law. This is especially true if you are operating a college district motor vehicle.
Students, visitors, and employees will be cited if a violation occurs on either campus.
Explanation of the new law and requirements from the California Highway Patrol (PDF). Please take the time to read and familiarize yourself with this law.
Campus Police Services, Safety and Security will take active enforcement measures to ensure that the law is complied with when motor vehicles are operated on any college district roadways or parking lots.
