Vietnam, Cambodia and Singapore International Business Summer 2011 - Study Abroad Program

Dates: May 23 - June 14, 2011.

Experience first-hand the rapidly-growing economy of Vietnam, visit the amazing temples of Angkor Wat in Cambodia, and experience the bustling international trade hub of Singapore.

First stop: Ho Chi Minh City, known for its hustle and bustle, full of bicycles, energy and people.

  • Enjoy the riverways of the Mekong Delta in a motorized sampan
  • Tour the exotic Cu Chi tunnels, with their secret trapdoors, meeting rooms, living quarters and complete kitchens – all underground!
  • Meet top executives from a variety of multinational companies such as Nike and Coca-Cola
  • Learn how to do business in this vibrant new market

Second stop: Hanoi, considered the Paris of the Orient, with its exotic blending of French and Southeast Asian architecture, food, and culture.

  • Cruise overnight on breathtaking Halong Bay in an air-conditioned junk, floating among the majestic limestone formations and hidden sea caves
  • Shop in quaint French Colonial sidestreets - Sugar Street, Tin Street, Paper Street- named for their wares of long–ago
  • Tour local and multinational companies such as Zamil Steel and Ernst and Young

Third stop: Cambodia, home to some of the most spectacular temples in the world.

  • Experience the world’s largest temple- Angkor Wat, truly one of the greatest sights in the world.
  • Ponder the faces of Angkor Thom - over 200 of them, silently smiling since the 12th century.

Fourth stop: Singapore, the city rated as having the most business-friendly economy in the world.

  • Meet with top executives from some of the most well-known multinational companies such as IBM and Pfizer
  • Shop in gleaming mega-malls
  • Experience Singapore’s exciting nightlife
  • Feast on outstanding cuisine from around the world at the Festival Market

*Cost information: This trip is subsidized by a federal grant. This grant covers half of the cost of the trip. Due to federal regulations, only U.S. citizens or those holding Permanent Resident status can qualify for the subsidized price of $2,500. Return to text.

Global Business Immersion

Requirements

  • Participants must be either Ohlone College students or students at another 2- or 4-year California college or university
  • Students must enroll in the Global Business Immersion Course for Summer 2011
  • Students must have a minimum 2.0 GPA
  • Students must have, or be able to get, a current, valid, individual passport
  • Students must be 18 years old at the time of departure
  • Students must be in good health, and not have any serious disabilities which would impede their ability to keep up with the physical demands of group travel

Preference will be given to

  • Students with a 2.5 or higher GPA
  • Students with one or more Ohlone College Business courses, particularly international business courses
  • Students with prior international travel experience
  • Students with prior group or leadership experience
