Transfer Articulation - Transfer Center
The Community College Advantage
California community college transfer students receive first priority over other transfer applicants to UC and CSU, including applicants from four-year colleges and intercampus transfers.
Nearly 90% of all transfer students at UC and CSU started out at a California Community College!
Did You Know…?
66% of Ohlone College students are younger than 25 years of age. In 2008-2009 Ohlone's youngest student was 9 years old and the oldest student was 87 years old. You can do it too! Visit Admissions and Records for information about how to enroll at Ohlone College.
IGETC and CSU Certification
The IGETC (Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum) is a series of courses that community college students can use to satisfy lower division general education requirements at any campus of the University of California (UC) or California State University (CSU).
The CSU General Education Certification identifies courses that students can complete at Ohlone College to meet the lower division general education requirements at all CSU campuses.
Students who are following either the IGETC or CSU pattern should apply for certification at the Counseling Department the semester prior to transfer. Students who have attended other colleges in addition to Ohlone College should make an appointment with an Ohlone College counselor.

What is articulation?
Articulation is a process between two educational institutions or between one college and an educational system (such as UC or CSU) wherein curriculum is reviewed in order to determine whether the courses are comparable to each other. This process is done to help transfer students make a smooth transition (typically from the community college to a university/college) without experiencing a delay or duplication of coursework. Courses at the sending college (i.e.: Ohlone College) are identified as comparable to courses at the receiving university. This allows students to fulfill a university requirement by taking an identified comparable course (articulated course) at Ohlone College. This articulation agreement may be presented as course-to-course, for lower division major preparation and/or for general education-breadth requirements. In some cases, courses are only articulated (identified) as elective courses. This means that though the units will transfer, the course does not fulfill any specific requirements other than as transferable units.

If you are planning to transfer you may want to use Project ASSIST, a helpful planning tool. ASSIST is the computerized Official California Articulation database and transfer planning system that provides transfer-related information for California Community College, California State University, and University of California campuses. ASSIST is a collaborative activity of these public and post-secondary educational institutions.
The advantage of ASSIST is that it provides access to transfer-related information using a computer rather than the numerous paper catalogs and articulation agreements that are otherwise required for transfer planning. ASSIST quickly organizes course information that is in its database so that each student's transfer plans and academic goals can be uniquely addressed.
