Drew PREP - Allied Health Summer Program
The College of Science and Health at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science sponsors Drew PREP, a six-week summer institute that will introduce ethnic minority and/or economically disadvantaged community college students to the allied health professions.
PREP participants will prepare community college students to excel in their studies within the health profession of their choice, including medicine, dentistry, physical and occupational therapy, nursing, physician assistant, radiography, radiation therapy, and nuclear medicine to list a few examples. The program will help students improve their application portfolios as they proceed with their prerequisite and foundational education at their community colleges.
Prerequisites for participating in Drew PREP include current or concurrent enrollment at a community college and minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0. The program is free to all participants. Materials and resources will be provided at no extra cost. Students are responsible for covering their own transportation to/from the Charles Drew University campus which is located in South Los Angeles. For more information about the College of Science and Health at Charles R. Drew University, please visit the website at www.cdrewu.edu/cosh.
Drew PREP participants will be engaged in seminars that provide an overview of health professions and requisite foundational information on human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology. Drew’s College of Science and Health faculty will provide demonstrations and workshops on select health professions. Students will also participate in skill building sessions on math, writing, and time management and gain insight on public health and other health sciences issues from guest speakers. As noted above, Drew PREP will run for six weeks from late June to early August (except on the 4th of July).

During the two summer sessions, you will take classes in writing, logic, and LSAT prep, sit in on presentations; participate in Moot Court or Mock Trial; and meet with tutors and admission professionals who can help shape your academic and career decisions. During the academic year, you will participate in a mentorship program with a current law student, attend workshops on the application process, take practice LSAT exams under test conditions; and go on field trips. You will also have the opportunity to meet law professors, attorneys, and admissions professionals from various law schools. Partial funding for the King Hall Outreach Program is made possible through a grant from the Law School Admission Council PLUS Program.
