Transfer Day 2008

Information for Faculty and Staff

Transfer Day 2008 is on Wednesday, September 17, 2008! Over 40 colleges and universities are available at the Information Fair to provide transfer information and opportunities to students! The University Panel Q&A Session is a great opportunity for students to learn about the differences between CSU, UC, and private institutions, as well as basic financial aid information.

Having a successful Transfer Day is a college-wide effort. Instructional and counseling faculty, as well as staff can play critical role in promoting Transfer Day since you may see students on a day-to-day basis. You may be in touch with students’ educational goals and are able to encourage them to achieve these goals. It’s important for students to know that Ohlone instructors, counselors, and staff, support the transfer experience.

T-shirt Tuesdays

To help gear up for Transfer Day, all staff and faculty are encouraged to wear t-shirts every Tuesday in September and especially on Transfer Day from their alma maters or any other college or university.

Ways to Help

There are many ways in which faculty can help promote Transfer Day:

  • Consider bringing your class(es) to the event.
  • Incorporate this event into an assignment for your students, possibly as extra credit.
  • Offer to meet your students at the event if you don’t have class during this time.
  • Set aside class time to discuss your personal experiences either at the university or as a transfer student.
  • Wear college or university clothing every Tuesday in September, especially on Transfer Day.
  • Join the Transfer Day planning committee!
  • and... Announce Transfer Day to students in your classes!

Are you unavailable to volunteer and wondering how else you can support this event? Here are just a few suggestions...

  • "Take 5" – Spend 5 minutes sharing your university and/or transfer experience with students. Mentor someone who may be pursuing your alma mater – help them make early connections with the campus!

  • Take your class(es) to the event or offer to meet students there

  • Creatively incorporate this event into an assignment for class - we offer support materials (check out the questionnaire (PDF)) and are willing to help you brainstorm!

  • Volunteer to serve on the planning committee
