Frequently Asked Questions - University Express

Q. Who Can Participate in University Express?

University Express is for first-time college students who want to make college their FIRST PRIORITY. It is recommended that University Express students work less than 15 hours per week.

Q. What are the Benefits of University Express?

  • This program is perfect for students who are unsure of what classes to take or are undecided on a major but know they want to transfer. Your first semester courses have already been selected for you!
  • You are guaranteed enrollment in all classes (except math which you must self-enroll).
  • You will develop close relationships with your peers in University Express because you will be taking the courses together.
  • Faculty will be working together to encourage and support your success.
  • You will satisfy four General Education or basic skills requirements in just your first semester.

Q. Can I Enroll in Additional (or Alternate) Courses?

It may be possible for you to enroll in an additional or alternate course depending on your math enrollment. The maximum number of units a first-semester student may take is 17½. If you are interested in registering for an additional course, meet with an Ohlone Counselor to determine whether this would be appropriate.

Q. If I enroll in University Express for the Fall, am I required to enroll in the program for the Spring?

It is strongly recommended that you remain in the program for both Fall and Spring semesters; however, it is not required. At the end of the first semester, if you aren't sure if you should enroll in University Express, see an Ohlone Counselor.

Q. After I Am Accepted into the Program, What Do I Need to Do?

If you have been selected into the program, Ohlone College Admissions and Records staff will register you in the set of University Express courses. It will be your responsibility to enroll yourself into a math class (and/or any additional class) either via WebAdvisor (see Admissions and Records and the Class Schedule for registration details).

Once you have been registered in the classes, you will need to pay your enrollment fees. This can be done via WebAdvisor. Students who wish to pay with cash or a check can bring payments to the Cashier's Office (Building 1, second floor).

You are then ready to begin classes!
