Using SSH Secure Shell: Secure File Transfer Client for Windows - Web Center
The SSH Secure Shell file transfer software is installed on your computer. It provides authorized users a way of managing the files in their website directory on the development web server. Files can be uploaded or downloaded, renamed, and deleted using the software. Authorized users can access the Ohlone College development web server from any computer where the SSH Secure Shell client software is installed.
The SSH Secure Shell: Secure File Transfer software provides:
- Protection for all passwords and data
- Fully integrated secure file transfer and file copying
- A windows-like graphical user interface

Launch the SSH Secure Shell: Secure File Transfer Client program application using one of these methods:
Select the "Secure File Transfer Client" icon on the desktop (see Figure 1a):

Select the Start button in the Windows Taskbar, then select Programs > SSH Secure Shell > Secure File Transfer Client from the menu as shown in Figure 1b.

Once the SSH Secure File Transfer application window is open, select Quick Connect as shown in Figure 2:

This will open a Connect to Remote Host screen.

Provide the following values:
- Host Name: dev2.ohlone.edu
- User Name: your username
- Port Number: 22
- Authentication Method: Keyboard Interactive

Accept the settings by clicking the Connect button.
For the first connect session with the dev2.ohlone.edu server (and after the server software has been updated), you will see a Host Identification screen similar to the one shown in Figure 5. Click "Yes" to accept the settings and save them.

The SSH Secure Shell: Secure File Transfer Client opens the "Enter Authentication Response" dialog box asking for your password as shown in Figure 6.

Enter your password and select OK.
Select OK again when the second "Enter Authentication Response" dialog box displays (Figure 7).

Once you have logged in, you should see a two pane display (see Figure 8):
- The pane on the left shows local files on your computer and on any network drive accessible to you on your computer
- The pane on the right shows remote files on the web server. The remote directory displayed is the website directory for the account. For example:
- A personal account has a directory such as /people/jsmith
- A departmental account has a directory such as /org/athletics
- The drop-down box on the right side (highlighted in red in Figure 8) shows the current directory
You can transfer files between your computer and the web server in several ways. Begin by navigating in the left pane to the directory in which your website files are stored on your computer. Select the website files that you want to transfer to the server. You may then:
- drag and drop
- copy and paste from the Edit menu
- upload/download from the Operation menu

When you are finished transferring files, you should disconnect from the SSH Secure Shell Secure File Transfer Client program by clicking on the disconnect icon (computer with a red slash through it circled in red in Figure 9). Select the "OK" button to disconnect. This will help to protect the integrity of your files.
