Review and discuss the Online Campus Tour website
Draft #1 of the Online Campus Tour website was reviewed.
Background: A group of individuals met a few times through the summer to discuss online orientations, an online campus tour, and improvement of the campus maps on the website. An initial draft of textual content was used to create the draft being viewed - the group plans to modify the content. The group has not yet met to discuss this first draft of the website.
Some WTF members questioned the focus of the tour: Is the purpose of the Online Campus Tour to (a) help people locate key places, or (b) show off the best/interesting features of Ohlone College? If (b), then more attractive photographs need to be placed on the Administrative page and the Newark page - if those pages are even necessary since the Administrative building and the NOC are not attractive features of the College. Either way, the content needs to be massaged to be edited and more attractive photos displayed on some of the pages. Cheryl will bring these issues to the Campus Tour group in the next meeting (which has not been scheduled).
Review and discuss the new Campus Maps website
Paula demo'd aVERY ROUGH DRAFT to the group to give members a chance to make comments before the project progressed much further.
Bob mentioned that many faculty don't know about the campus maps available on the website. (So their availability should be announced once the new Campus Maps site is complete.) Several suggestions were made by members of the WTF.
Cheryl will try again to find out who is responsible for the accuracy of the Fremont campus map, the NOC campus map, and the floor maps. Earlier this year College Relations contracted with a graphic designer to re-create the Fremont campus map, but they didn't want to re-create the NOC map at that time since the campus footage was being reduced. Keith Williams (who left the College in December 2002) had maintained the floor maps. It was mentioned that Buildings & Groups has blue prints of each building and floor, as well as evacuation maps and accessibility maps.
Review and discuss DRAFT #1 of Web Team Service Level Agreement
This document was distributed but not discussed at the end of our last meeting on 5/8/2003. (4/23/2003 (Draft) Web Team Service Level Agreement (PDF file).)
No suggestions for changes were made.
Eolas Lawsuit Against Microsoft re browser plug-in technology
Cheryl mentioned that a recent court decision against Microsoft regarding browser plug-in technology created by a company named Eolas may mean that Microsoft will have to disable or re-engineer browser "plug-in" technology in the Microsoft Internet Explorer browser (9/19/2003 ZDNet article). This will affect how Adobe PDF files, Macromedia Flash files, MS Word/Excel/PowerPoint/etc. documents, etc. display in the IE browser. No action is needed on our part at this time.
