Hi, WTF members - Attached is an Microsoft Excel spreadsheet that is the Website Portal Page Organization Plan - Draft #1. I've reviewed the portal pages of several colleges that successfully use portals to organize their sites (UC San Diego http://www.ucsd.edu, Iowa State University http://www.iastate.edu/, and Florida Gulf Coast University http://www.fgcu.edu/), and have organized the Ohlone web site into categories for each portal page. I need fresh eyes -- *your eyes* -- to review this document for completeness (although changes will continue to be made to the portal pages as a normal part of updating a website). Please print each of the worksheets in this Excel file and make comments and revisions to your printout. I will collect the printouts containing your comments during the WTF meeting on Tuesday and will then create a second draft of the organization plan. When making your changes, *do not* try to include *everything* conceivable since the portal pages should contain the main or most-used items. If the portal pages have too much content, they will be overwhelming and therefore difficult to use. I've already put *a lot* on many of the portal pages and want to trim the amount of information on them. So, I would also like you to consider *what can be removed* as well as *what can be renamed to make more sense* for Ohlone. The agenda for Tuesday's WTF meeting is: * schedule future WTF meetings every other Tuesday 2-4pm through the last week of May * discuss overall comments regarding the Website Portal Page Organization Plan * discuss how to go about getting information for pages on the website that currently do not have content (see the last worksheet in the Excel document) * review and select a website design to present to TACO * review of Draft #3 of the Web Proposal (which you don't have yet! see last paragraph) * discuss any issues that may continue to concern you I would like to put the new home page and portal pages in place by the end of May so that I can then concentrate on the Zope portion of the website project. Therefore, Shirley and I want to bring the *final* WTF-approved/recommended versions of the following to the 4/26 TACO meeting to get TACO's approval so that we can seek approval by the Cabinet by the beginning of May: * Web Proposal - Draft #3 (some things have changed since we reviewed Draft #2 so I'm working on Draft #3 and hope to email it to you tomorrow or early Monday) * Web Page Guidelines - Draft #3 * Website Portal Page Organization Plan * website design See you on Tuesday!
