Here are a few tips for using the new Directory (which isn't "live" yet, but these may help you locate entries for review and updating as needed). The new Directory can currently be viewed at: http://www.ohlone.edu/core/directorynew.html *BUT* will move to a new URL when "live" and linked to from the College website (estimated release date is the start of Spring 2009 semester).

Tips for using the new Directory

You cannot break the Directory - play around with the options!

  1. You can SORT by clicking on a COLUMN HEADING (that's what the arrows next to the column headings mean);
    • Click once for ascending order (0-9, a-z)
    • Click again for descending order (9-0, z-a)
  2. One at a time, you can search:
    • for a person's first name
    • for a person's last name
    • by title (who is Faculty? search for "faculty")
    • for a department name (who is in the Speech department? search for "Speech")
    • for a phone number (who has the phone number 659-6000? search for "659-6000")
    • for a room number
    • by campus (want to list all Newark campus entries? search for "newark")
    • by email address
  3. Complex searching is not available (at least not now).
  4. Searching is not case sensitive, so searches for "james" or "James" or "JAMES" or "JaMeS" all result in the same listing.
  5. There are 3 List options: "All" entries, just "People", or just "Departments".
  6. There are 4 Report options - i.e., 4 formats with which to view Directory information:
    • "Default" with all columns
    • "Plain" with all columns and smaller header/footer - Nice for printing
    • "Name & Phone" with just Name and Phone info
      • "All" and "Name & Phone" will list Name and Phone
        • for People entries, Name includes First Name and Last Name
        • for Department entries, Name includes the Department name and the Title field (which contains "area" info for Departments)
      • "People" and "Name & Phone" will list First Name, Last Name, Phone
      • "Departments" and "Name & Phone" will list Department, Phone
    • "Name & Phone Plain" with just Name and Phone numbers and smaller header/footer - Nice for printing (the subparts of the previous item also apply here!)
  7. You can use any of the 3 List options with any of the 4 Report options.
  8. Be careful when PRINTING because there can be A LOT of pages *and* information CHANGES regularly. It is best to just use the online version. RECOMMEND: Do a Print Preview first!
