Using the WebTeamShare Directory - Web Team

A shared directory on the Ohlone_1 network server is available to allow users to provide copies of electronic files (especially large ones!) to the WebTeam without burdening Ohlone's email server and without providing files on a USB drive (also known as a "jump disk" or "memory stick"), a CD-ROM, or a ZIP disk.

Copies of files should be provided, not originals. Files are removed from the WebTeamShare directory when the Web Team starts your update.

Note: The "Ohlone_1" server is also known as "Ohlone1" and "Ohlone-1".

Access the WebTeamShare Directory

For Windows Users Only

  1. Login to the Ohlone College network
  2. Open Windows Explorer (this is the file manager program, not the web browser which is called Internet Explorer) or My Computer or My Network Places
  3. In the "Address" field, type: \\ohlone_1\webteamshare then press Enter - You must use the backslash "\" (usually located on the key above the Enter key). Do not use the forward slash "/" (usually located with the question mark (?) key). To remember the difference between these two characters:
    • The backslash is standing on its feet leaning backward.
    • The forward slash is standing on its feet leaning forward.
  4. The WebTeamShare directory displays. If you get an error or do not see a list of folders, return to Steps 2 and 3.
  5. Now, go to Copy Files for further instructions

  3. Click on the "Admin" folder
  4. Scroll down through the list of computers to "Ohlone_1" and click on it
  5. Click on the "Connect" button
  6. Type in your network username and your network password and click "OK"
  7. Select which share on Ohlone_1 you want to connect to (example: "WebTeamShare", "Departments", or "Staff") and click "OK"
  8. The name of the share you selected will now appear on your desktop. Double-click on it to open it.

(Many thanks to the Helpdesk for the Mac instructions!)
