Kathy Dewan
Assistant Professor of Nursing
Introduction
Hi, my name is Kathy Dewan. It seems to hard to believe that I have been a registered nurse for nearly 30 years! I started my nursing career as a candy striper at 16 years of age and then worked as a nursing assistant in a convalescent home and later in an acute hospital. I graduated from Humboldt State University in 1975. My first job was at Stanford University. I worked as a pediatric nurse in a general unit and as a pediatric ICU nurse. I then moved to Washington State and worked in the Neonatal ICU. I obtained my master's degree from the University of Washington and certificate as Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. I worked at Kaiser in the Bay Area as a PNP until I began my family.
My husband, young son and I moved to the island of Kauai where I began my teaching career. I taught at Kauai Community College for over 5 years when my family, which now included my daughter, returned to the mainland. We now live in the East Bay Area near my extended family. I have been a member of the Ohlone College Nursing Faculty since August of 1996.
Currently, my teaching responsibilities include NUR-101 and NUR-104. NUR-101 is the entry nursing course and NUR-104 is our Maternal-Child course.
