Sally Scofield, Assistant Professor - Registered Nursing
Introduction
I am a full time medical-surgical nursing instructor at Ohlone College since 1998. I obtained my BSN degree at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines and my MSN at San Francisco State University. I came to Ohlone with 20 years of medical-surgical nursing and home health experience. My clinical specialty is oncology. As an oncology nurse, I performed various responsibilities such as chemotherapy administration, apheresis, central line (PICC) insertion, and cancer screening and outreach. I also have several years of nursing management experience as patient care coordinator and nurse manager. I often share my clinical experiences with my students and I’ve found that theoretical concepts become easier to comprehend when real-life examples are provided. I currently teach NUR-103 Medical Surgical Nursing II and Community I, and NUR-106 Medical-Surgical Nursing III and Community II.
My life is not all about work. My passion includes the outdoors, reading, music, theater, and good movies. My idea of a perfect vacation is camping under the tall redwood trees, surrounded by the mountains and listening to the sounds of nature. I’ve found recent interest in educational technology and media. I am fascinated by the many possibilities and opportunities they can create in making education and learning more interesting and motivating. Beginning this fall semester, I am teaching my first fully online class, AH-110 and AH- 111, Medical Terminology.
I enjoy my job of preparing our future nurses. It gives me tremendous satisfaction to see our students graduate knowing that somehow I have contributed to their education and to a brighter economic future for themselves and their families.
