Fremont, CA — The traditional melody of Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance will be in the air as friends and family members celebrate the 2018 graduates of Ohlone College. This ceremony marks the 51st graduation for the college.
As the 2017-18 academic year draws to a close, Ohlone College will be awarding 1188 Associate of Art and Associate of Science degrees, and 45 Certificates of Achievement. A total of 754 students will be graduating, some with multiple degrees, with many planning to transfer to local and out-of-state universities to further their higher education goals.
The valedictorian at this year’s graduation celebration is Ms. Beibei Liu, A.A. Human Development Studies. Liu was born in China and immigrated to the United States in 2015. She began attending Ohlone College in the fall 2015 semester. She attended eight consecutive semesters including summer terms, in which she enrolled and completed 100 units earning a perfect 4.0 grade point average. She chose Ohlone because of its great educational resources and credits the Tutoring Center for supporting her when struggling with an essay or a difficult math problem. Beibei has been an active member of the Ohlone student body. She was the vice president of the Math Club and worked as an embedded tutor in the Math department. In the fall, Ms. Liu transfers to the University of California at Berkeley, where she will major in Statistics. Her career goal is to become a data scientist.
Ohlone’s 51st Graduation Ceremony will be held on Friday, May 18, 2018 on the Ohlone College Fremont campus, 43600 Mission Boulevard, inside the Epler Gymnasium (Building 9). The doors open at 6:00 p.m. with the ceremony beginning at 7:00 p.m. Each graduate is given four tickets which are required for entrance to the event by family members and friends. Additional guests can watch the graduation on a large video screen set up in the Smith Center Theatre on campus.
