Lanterns lit for Lunar New Year
Thursday, February 11, 2021

Dear Ohlone Community,

As we move into our holiday weekend, we have much to look forward to as many of us will be celebrating the Lunar New Year and welcoming in the Year of the Ox alongside our Asian communities. I hope that, during times like these and every day, we remember the wonderful diversity that builds the fabric of our community and that of the Tri-Cities district that surrounds us.

Let us also remember in this time that we must stand in unity against the increase in anti-Asian sentiments and violence that has risen in our community. In any form, racism is unacceptable. Our striving to be an equity-based, anti-racist educational institution means we must call out this behavior in whatever form it manifests itself.

Our actions must be universal and our thoughts and intentions world-embracing. Let us also stand with our students and community from Myanmar who are distressed by the violence occurring there. This is an opportunity to be united in educating ourselves in the joys and pains of our friends and communities locally and across the world.

Please, as always, keep yourselves and your families safe and remain vigilant during these trying times.

In unity and diversity,

Eric B. Bishop, Ed.D.
