Good Afternoon Campus Community,

I hope this message finds you well and in good spirits amid this challenging period. I wanted to send you a personal update as to where we are in managing the impact of COVID-19 on our community of students, faculty, and staff.

Given that Governor Newsom has implored the citizens of California to consider adjustments to mitigate the damage done by the epidemic, the College has decided that the safest and least disruptive option for our community is to continue remote instruction through the end of the spring semester.

As of this writing, all on-campus services and operations continue to be suspended in accordance with the Alameda County Health Department’s directive to shelter-in-place through April 7. We are following the guidelines of the health department and will update the community regarding campus operations as the situation changes.

The College has also decided to hold a virtual commencement ceremony for students instead of a large gathering on campus in May in order to continue to protect the health of our community and to do what we can to avoid transmission of COVID-19. We will send a separate correspondence when we know the date and time for graduation. Please continue to be patient with us as we are working through the logistics of the ceremony. We realize these are unusual times and that we have to be creative in our approach for the health of our Ohlone family. SEE MORE REGARDING COMMENCEMENT/GRADUATION BELOW.

While we are working out further details and trying to answer questions we anticipate you will have, we ask for your patience and understanding. We will continue to send students, faculty, and staff updates as we get them so please continue to check your emails for correspondence.

You should continue to apply for graduation. The deadline for spring graduation applications has been extended to April 10th.

If the college decides to postpone commencement, the timing of degree completion will not be affected. Degree conferral will be governed by the completion of the academic work for the relevant degree.

Diplomas are not distributed at commencement, as the college issues diplomas after verifying that all academic requirements have been completed and the degree has been awarded. This process will continue as scheduled.

Ohlone’s Commencement Ceremony will be a virtual event this year.

  • The date and time are TBD.
  • Once we are ready to share the graduation details, the information will be sent directly to those who applied for fall 2019, spring 2020, and summer 2020 graduation.

The College has created a webpage for information and updates surrounding COVID-19 as they relate to Ohlone College. Please refer to and send us an email with further questions to

Please continue to stay strong, faithful, and fervent in your daily efforts to work together in fighting this pandemic. We will overcome this hardship and will come out the other side much stronger as one Ohlone family. Thank you for your support and for your community.

Warmest Regards,

Gari Browning
