Fremont, Calif., May 21, 2020—The Ohlone College 53rd Commencement Ceremony will take on a less traditional approach this year amid the COVID-19 pandemic with a virtual, online ceremony this Friday, May 22 at 7 p.m. The pre-recorded ceremony can be viewed through the Ohlone College live stream or on ONTV (cable channel 28). The Office of Student Life will be hosting a watch party on Facebook for the Class of 2020.

This year’s commencement will be hosted by Ohlone Community College District President/Superintendent Dr. Gari Browning with speeches by Ohlone’s Interim Director of EOPS Nancy Navarro-Leça, ASOC President Talha Tariq, and Class of 2020 Valedictorian Ms. Nitya Goyal.

She has been invited back to work on a project for the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center this summer. Goyal received acceptance to six universities, including an invitation to be a Regents Scholar at University of California, Santa Cruz. In the fall, she will transfer to the University of California, Berkeley with plans to complete her education and find a job where she can use her degree to solve problems that change the world.

For the 2019/20 academic year Ohlone College will be awarding 1062 Associate of Art and Associate of Science degrees, and 195 Certificates of Achievement. A total of 750 students will be graduating, some with multiple degrees, with many planning to transfer to local and out-of-state universities to further their higher education goals.
