Biography

Brenda Ahntholz is a Professor of Communication and Gender and Women’s Studies at Ohlone College in Fremont, CA.  At Ohlone College she has created several successful programs including the Communication Colloquium Speakers Series, the Communication Centers, and the Gender Sex Fair.  She has served as Faculty Senate President, Director of the Communication Centers, and General Education Curriculum Chair at her college.  In April 2018, she emceed the first TEDx event at Ohlone.  Her areas of academic interest are in communication theory, gender, sexual identity, race and culture, and critical and social activism pedagogy.  Prior to academia, she worked in marketing and market research as a qualitative research analyst and focus group moderator. Her bachelor’s degree is in Journalism Public Relations from the University of Nebraska and her master’s degree is in Communication Studies with a focus on gender & women’s studies, LGBTQ studies, and communication education from the University of Northern Iowa.  She also pursued her doctorate in Leadership and Multicultural Education at Alliant International University in San Francisco.
