Being involved in the Peer Mentor Program is a great way to meet new people, develop new skills, and play a leadership role on campus! In addition, here are some other great benefits to this paid leadership opportunity!
Leadership: Being a Peer Mentor means having the opportunity to make a difference for students during their time at Ohlone College. Peer Mentors are seen as role models on the campus, and take the initiative to plan big events such as Welcome Day.
Learn New Skills: Mentors are trained on public speaking skills for their high school and community visits, campus tours, and orientations. Mentors also have the opportunity to develop their organizational and interpersonal skills by planning and participating in a variety of events. Training is provided to each new Peer Mentor upon being hired, and throughout the semester on a variety of topics such as diversity, communication, conflict resolution, goal-setting, and professionalism.
Meet New People: As a Peer Mentor, you will be connecting with prospective students on campus tours and high school visits, and new students during Freshmen Days, Welcome Day, and orientations. Not only will help make a positive impact on a student who is new to Ohlone, but four-year colleges and employers love to see people who are involved in co-curricular activities.
