Internships and Career Opportunities in Biotechnology

Ohlone College Biotechnology logo.

In California, many biotech companies are in the pharmaceutical industry - producing medicines to help patients with arthritis, strokes, heart disease, cancer, diabetes, etc. Techniques of biotechnology are also used in agriculture, industrial applications, forensics, biofuels, environmental cleanup and other industries. The San Francisco Bay Area is a world leader in biotechnology, with a heavy concentration of biotech companies.

Biotechnology Internships

The internship is a short-term temporary period of employment with a biotech company. This work experience is invaluable for students and enables them to apply theory and lab skills learned in Ohlone's biotechnology program to real life situations. This temporary work experience also enables biotech companies to evaluate student skills and performance as candidates for longer-term positions. Students are eligible to apply for internships once they have completed or are near completion of one of Ohlone's biotechnology certificates.
