In order to help manage emergencies, Ohlone College incorporates Building Monitors who are a select number regular college employees that perform this function as an auxiliary assignment. There are typically three Building Monitors per building or area with one being assigned as the primary and the other two as alternates.

The Building Monitor responsibilities are to ensure their assigned building is properly equipped and prepared for emergencies by making sure essential emergency equipment is in place and functioning properly. They also assist with alerting the occupants in their assigned building(s) and on campus when an emergency or critical incident occurs. They facilitate and oversee emergency responses including safe and orderly evacuations and will perform as a field communication conduit for the Emergency Operations Center when activated.

Building Monitors receive special training in emergency management, CPR & first-aid, Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) operation, and Evautrac.
