Doug Torres has taught guitar at Ohlone College since the Fall Semester of 1969. He started the guitar program and has built it to what it is now; a program which currently has 3 guitar instructors. He has also taught at De Anza and Foothill Colleges over the years. He earned his B.A. in Music and his Masters degree in Music Education from Cal State University, Hayward (renamed CSU, East Bay).
His excellent guitar abilities include classical, jazz, folk, rock & roll, western and Hawaiian styles. Doug has performed extensively throughout the Bay Area and won the National Championship on his steel guitar.
He is the author of a college textbook, A Modern Approach to the Classical Guitar. His illustrations are clear and concise which make it easy for a student to understand. In addition to his book, Doug provides many wonderful guitar arrangements for his students. This makes an interesting and varied curriculum which helps to keep students motivated and eager to learn guitar.
Currently Doug and his son, Chris, have a CD out with many arrangements by Doug for jazz guitar. They plan on producing another CD in the near future.
