Biography

Larissa Favela is a Bay Area native and an Associate Professor of Communication Studies & Gender & Women's Studies at Ohlone College in Fremont, CA. She also serves as supervisor and coordinator for the Ohlone Forensics Team and coordinator for the Communication Studies Department Speech Colloquium series. She is a graduate of San Jose State University where she first learned of her passion for the classroom in SJSU’s reputable TA program. Her research interests are many, including but not limited to rhetoric, gender and society, and communication theory and practice; but one of her favorite areas of Communication research is intercultural communication. She wrote her graduate thesis on Japanese American identity and intergenerational dialogue in the San Jose Japantown community.  In Spring 2018, she spearheaded and planned the first Ohlone College TEDx event at Ohlone College Newark campus and is gearing up for the next one, tentatively scheduled for Fall 2019.
