We are hosting a series of Zoom sessions that will provide you more information to help you in the next steps in your career, or job search journey. After each session there will be an opportunity for your questions to be answered in real-time. We look forward to connecting with you!

        • Learn more about two popular Ohlone programs Multimedia & CNET. Topics for discussion will include Ohlone's Multimedia and Graphic Arts certificates and degrees including Web Design, 3D Modeling and Animation, Video Game Development, Graphic Design, and more. In addition, learn about Ohlone's CNET program and the careers available upon completion of your CNET certificate or degree such as Cybersecurity, Cisco Certified Network Associate, Cisco Network Professional, Business Analytics, Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator, and Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer.

      • Dr. Laurie Issel-Tarver, Professor, Biotechnology
      • Dr. Rose-Margaret Ekeng-Itua, Professor of Engineering and Coordinator of the Smart Manufacturing Program at Ohlone College
        • Learn more about Ohlone's Biotechnology and SMTech programs. Dr. Issel-Tarver will share insight into Ohlone's impressive biotechnology program, which launched its graduates into careers in leading Bay Area biotech companies. Learn about the Biotechnology Associate's Degree, and certificates in Bio-Manufacturing, Biostatics, and more! You'll also hear from Professor Dr. Rose-Margaret Ekeng-Itua who will introduce Ohlone's SMTech program, which provides students with knowledge and skills for Industry 4.0 standards, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), Additive Manufacturing, and emerging manufacturing processes. She'll share the program features and career opportunities for students who complete the Smart Manufacturing Technology certificate or Associate's Degree.

      • Matt O'Donnell, Associate Professor and Coordinator, Entertainment Design Technology (EDT) program
        • Learn more about Ohlone's Entertainment Design Technology (EDT) program and how it prepares students for jobs in entertainment technologies industries. EDT students get hands-on experience working as production crew members and many former Ohlone College EDT students are working for Disney, on feature films, international tours, conventions,  and corporate theater productions. In addition, you'll learn about Ohlone's Broadcasting program, including how students are prepared with hands-on experience, using professional equipment, which  excels their future studies and careers in the industry.
Session Speaker Bios:
Isabel Reichert, assistant professor at Ohlone College, has over 20 years of experience working as an artist and designer for web, print, and interactive media in the Bay Area. She taught for 15 years a various colleges and universities throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Prior to joining Ohlone, she taught courses in art, design, critical theory for California College of the Arts (CCA), UC Santa Cruz, and the San Francisco Art Institute. Her work has been screened at international film festivals and her multimedia artwork has been featured in galleries and museums internationally.
Monica Cappiello, has over 9 years of educational experience including titles such as Dean of Academic Affairs, Full-Time Faculty, and Department Director of Media, Animation and Games. She has worked in the industry for companies such as PBS, Red Giant Studios, Mendez Foundation, and the Pixellex Studio. Several of her works have been awarded at film festivals. Monica has a B.A. in Studio Arts and Digital Media. She also holds a  M.F.A. in Animation from Savannah College of Art and Design. In her free time, she has a digital persona called Academic Phoenix, where she creates digital tutorials ranging from modeling, texturing, lighting and AR. She has over 30K subscribers on YouTube. Furthermore, Monica has volunteered for SIGGRAPH since 2015 taking up multiple roles including VR Theater Director, Immersive Pavilion subcommittee,a and Education Liaison. 
Dr. Laurie Issel-Tarver, is a biotechnology professor at Ohlone College teaching Cell and Molecular Biology, Plant Biology, Bioinformatics, Biotechnology Research Projects, and Genetics. She has a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry from LSU and a Ph.D. in Genetics from UC Berkeley. Before teaching at Ohlone, she was a scientific curator at the Saccharomyces Genome Database at Stanford and a scientist at Acacia Biosciences. She coordinates Ohlone's biotechnology program as well as the Learning Alliance for Bioscience (LAB) outreach program with local high schools.
Rose-Margaret Ekeng- Itua, is professor of engineering and coordinator of the SMTech program at Ohlone College. She holds a Ph.D. in Cybernetics and is a two-time visiting research fellow at UC Berkeley, where she carried out research on Smart Sustainable Manufacturing and Smart Micro-grids. She believes that the fourth industrial revolution is the new "Ms. Serendipity" and will create a more equitable future for all.
Gary Kauf, has been the Director of Broadcasting: Film and Television at Ohlone College for the past 20 years. He has worked as a writer-producer for NBC Nightly news, and was a reporter for KTVU's Ten O'Clock News, and a Field Anchor for Mornings on 2. Dozens of his students are now working professionals as reporters, producers, camerapersons, casting directors, and in many other positions in commercial film, television news, internet websites, and corporate video.
Matt O'Donnell, is an associate professor and coordinator or the EDT program at Ohlone College. Prior to coming to Ohlone, O'Donnell served as a production manager and lighting designer for live events, concerts, conventions, theatre productions, often working with very high-profile clients. While at Ohlone, he has worked with students as a technical director and lighting designer for numerous projects. His work has been recognized with several Garland Awards, and an Ovation award nomination for his work in Los Angeles. He received his bachelors degree from San Jose State University and an MFA from the University of Washington School of Drama.

    • FSA ID & FAFSA Completion
      • Shawn Domingo, Financial Aid Supervisor
        • A step-by-step tutorial on how to create a FSA ID (username & password), as well as a walk through on completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This session will require tax information for the 2018 and/or 2019 tax year, as well as W2's for yourself, your spouse (if over age of 24), or parents (if under age of 24). Please make sure you have a valid social security number and posses a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
    • Overview of Student Aid Programs

        • Not sure what programs are available or how much you may qualify for? Let us show you. This workshop will uncover the mystery that is financial aid, and go over the various programs that may be available to you. We will discuss how the programs work, what is free money, what are student loans, and well as grant and scholarship opportunities.
    • Professional Judgment (PJ) and Special Circumstances
      • Shawn Domingo, Financial Aid Supervisor
        • Just laid off? Reduction in household income? Do you previous tax returns not tell financial aid the whole story? If so, please attend this workshop where we will discuss the wonder of Professional Judgement. We will walk you through what is considered a special circumstance and how to request your FAFSA information to be adjusted so that we have a clearer picture of how your household is being supported during this unforeseen pandemic. This workshop will also discuss the special circumstances that may apply to students under the age of 24, who are not able to provide parent information and how financial aid can assist.
Speaker Bio:
Shawn Domingo, Financial Aid Supervisor, has over 16 years of financial aid experience and is nationally credentialed through the National Association for Student Financial Aid Administrators, and is 1 of 6 Certified Financial Aid Administrators in California. Shawn’s financial aid career has been dedicated to helping individuals qualify for millions of dollars in financial aid, assisting thousands of FAFSA document submission, and making attending college a possibility for thousands of individuals.

          • Learn more about Ohlone's Noncredit program. Designed with our community members in mind, noncredit courses are tuition-free, do not require proof of residency, and will prepare you to achieve academic, career, and/or lifelong learning goals. Ohlone offers noncredit courses and certificates in Business Administration, Computer  Networks and Emerging Technology, Math, English as a Second Language (ESL), and more.
    Session Speaker Bio:
    Emily Burns, A product of Bay Area education, Emily is excited to join Ohlone College as a Career Educational Coordinator where she supports both Career Education and Noncredit students. With a background in philanthropy and employee engagement, Emily is passionate about helping others achieve their goals. She earned her Associate's Degree in Sociology from the College of San Mateo, and her Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from UC Berkeley. She will begin her graduate studies in Counselor Education at San Jose State University this fall. She enjoys watercolor, suduko, going for walks, tending to her struggling house plants, and playing her cat Nala.

          • This workshop will go over the basics of what an internship is and how to develop, how to prepare for applying for an internship, and developing an action plan to look for internships.
    Session Speaker Bios:
    Lindsey Flores is a seasoned Outreach and Career Development professional with over 10 years of experience supporting underserved youth and older adults from diverse academic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds. Currently, she is a Career Advisor with Ohlone's Career Center and assists students and job seekers with their career development tracks including resume development, mock interviews, job and internship searches, and effective job search strategies.
    Arden Ambrocio, M.A. has over 5 years of experience working in higher education and possesses a master's degree in Counseling. Her career stems from supporting students at the K-12, CSU, and UC education levels. In addition, she is passionate about serving students from various socioeconomic and culturally diverse backgrounds. As a current Career Advisor with Ohlone's Career Center, she is dedicated to supporting students and job seekers reach their career development goals. 
    Shirley Calvert, M.A. is an experienced Career Advisor for the Tri-Cities Career Center. She possesses a master's degree in Career Development and is know as an innovative career counselor and presenter. She provides career services to students looking to work, and to community members interested in upgrading their skills or transitioning to a new career. Her mission is to provide compassionate care and innovative solutions.

    Evelyn Diaz Sanchez has over four years of experience working in higher education. Her career stems from supporting students in K-12, community college, CSU, and UC educational levels. As an immigrant herself, she is passionate about serving students from various socioeconomic and culturally diverse backgrounds. As the Outreach Coordinator at Ohlone College, she is dedicated to connecting the surrounding community with all the amazing resources Ohlone has to offer.
