People say college is supposed to be "the time of your life". You meet friends, and have the freedom to do what you want. But, for many, college life can be difficult, because there is so much to juggle. Many students are left feeling stressed, anxious, disconnected and alone.

No one needs to suffer in silence or alone. Join us at either of Ohlone's campuses for a free, confidential dpression assessment and links to resources.

Depressed man.If you are feeling sad, angry, stressed, weepy or tired and can't stop worrying…, or maybe you haven't been feeling quite yourself lately, and you're blue and just want to talk…. Or, you are fine, but you know a friend who is feeling out of sorts…drop by the Student Health Center to participate in free, confidential, education and screenings for a range of common emotional conditions that are often misunderstood and or overlooked.

Student Health Center personnel will provide education, support and referral resources (on campus or within the community) for those who take the brief screening assessment.

Allow 20 minutes for the actual screening process. You may want to go to Depression Test at PsyCom for an online screening - and then bring the results to the Health Center for scoring by a counselor who will provide information and support.

About National Depression Screening

Depression Has Many Faces

Many different faces from sad to angry to confused and more on yellow smileys.

Find out if yours is one of them.

National Depression Screening Day is held each October to educate students, faculty and staff that it is possible to virtually eliminate the emotional and physical symptoms of depression, anxiety, mood disorders and post traumatic stress disorder.

National Depression Screening Day is designed to call attention to the symptoms of these disorders and to promote prevention, early detection and treatment of prevalent, under diagnosed and treatable mental health disorders.

The emotional and physical symptoms of depression and anxiety can negatively impact college success, personal/family relationships, work performance, and life activities.

Some symptoms include:

  • Unusual loss of interest in pleasurable activities previously enjoyed
  • Unusual trouble sleeping or eating
  • Fluctuation in mood between feeling overly energetic to sad and hopeless
  • Feeling keyed up and anxious all the time
  • Nightmares or reoccurring thoughts of a past event.

Personal Counseling Services at Ohlone

Personal Counseling Services are available to all currently enrolled Ohlone College students. Services are free and confidential. Eight (8) sessions of short term personal counseling or life coaching sessions are available to those who want the support to maintain focus, life balance, and academic success. For those problems requiring more in depth support, referrals to community resources are provided.

Depression Screening Program is sponsored by Ohlone Student Health Center, Student Activities, and ASOC Student Government.
