Assistant Coach Chris Perry enters his fifth year as the Renegades pitching coach and recruiting coordinator for 2017-18. He joined Coach Curran's staff in August 2013, after serving as the head coach at Leigh High School in San Jose for six seasons.
The 2017 season developed into one of the best seasons in history for the Ohlone College baseball program. Within that success, Perry's pitching staff was a big piece of the 42-7 overall record, league title, #17 national ranking and a spot in the State Championships in Fresno. His staff finished the regular season ranked #1 in the state in ERA, and helped guide the Renegades past three top 10 Northern California teams in the 2017 playoffs. Leading that charge on the mound was ABCA All-Region 2nd Team pitcher, Carlos Jimenez, along with All-NorCal relief pitcher Brian Martinez and All-Leaguer Sterling Strong. Seven of his pitchers finished the year with under a 4.00 ERA and over 20 innings pitched, almost doubling the amount than any other opponent within the league. With all the success on the field, Coach Perry is most proud that every sophomore arm earned himself a scholarship to continue their academic and playing careers at the four-year level.
In 2016, Ohlone's pitching staff continued to show excellence on the mound by ranking in the top 20 in the state (16th) for a third straight year. The 2016 season, highlighted by left-handed pitcher Josh Calmerin's ABCA Pacific Association All-Region honors, saw three more pitchers garner All-Conference accolades (Calmerin, Grant Goff & Billy Damon). In four seasons, Coach Perry has guided 13 pitchers to All-League recognition status.
Over the past 13 years, Perry has coached at the college, high school and club level. During his time at Leigh, he guided the Longhorns to a league championship in 2011, five Central Coast Section playoff berths, including one trip to the final four (2008) and two 20-win plus seasons (2008, 2011). He saw 25 players move on to the collegiate level and also had 25 players earn All-League recognition for their performance on the field.
Prior to Leigh, Perry began his coaching career when Coach Curran hired him as his top assistant at Washington Union HS (Fresno) in 2005. He also worked as an assistant on the California Blaze Baseball Club and was a baseball instructor/camp coordinator at Fresno World of Baseball. In addition, he has had stints during the summer with local clubs, such as NorCal and the Cal Blaze. Perry has also worked within the school administration side, spending four years as an Athletic Director at Leigh. He currently is in his 11th year as a Physical Education teacher there.
A 1999 graduate of Lindhurst HS in Olivehurst, CA, Perry played four years of collegiate baseball for Yuba Community College (Marysville, CA) and New Mexico Highlands University (Las Vegas, NM).
Perry earned his Master's degree in Recreation and Sport Sciences with an emphasis in Coaching Education through Ohio University (2012), and earlier earned his Bachelor's degree in kinesiology from California State University, Fresno (2006).
Coach Perry resides in San Jose with his wife, Marisa, and their son Jacob.
