By Head Coach Jeremy Penaflor, Ohlone College Women's Volleyball.
Going into the 2014 season, I wasn't sure what to expect. We had a great 2012 season making the playoffs, but aspirations to do the same in 2013 fell short. The girls began summer volleyball class in July, and after 6 weeks with the group being together I knew that we could be something special. At this point, the official practice start date has come and gone. We've gone through our grueling tradition of double day practices, and luckily got out without any serious injury. I have to say that I'm proud of the effort that the girls have put in up to this point, but they know as well as I do that there is lots more work to do. We have a great group that gets along pretty well. We have talent, and more importantly, depth that we've never had during my time here at Ohlone. I'm excited for what the season has in store for us, but I'm more excited to see these student athletes bloom into better volleyball players, better students, and better people through their time her at Ohlone College. Hope to everyone out at a match this season!
I'd also like to take the time to acknowledge our outgoing sophomores moving on to compete at the next level. Congratulations and good luck to setter Emily Marden who will be attending and competing at Lesley College in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and outside hitter Brittany Creel who will is attending Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois.
One more acknowledgement…former player and student assistant Melisa Randall is also moving on to compete at Lesley University. I wanted to thank her for all the work she put in as a player, and I wanted thank her even more for all the work she did as an assistant for me. Good luck!
