President Eric Bishop Biography

Eric Bishop, Ed.D.

Dr. Eric BishopDr. Eric Bishop comes to Ohlone College having served more than 30 years in higher education. Dr. Bishop most recently served as associate superintendent of student services and legislative engagement for Chaffey College, in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. He also served on the executive board of the California Chief Student Services Officers Association. In his experiences he has overseen the plurality of student services offices while being an advocate for access.

He worked at Chaffey College from 2007 to 2020 and in addition to his executive role Dean of the Fontana Campus, Dean of Physical Education and Athletics, Director of Student Discipline and Grievance, and Vice President of Student Services. While at Chaffey, he facilitated government relations, working with local, state and federal officials on behalf of the college. He also served as Title IX Compliance Officer, and as a tri-chair on the President’s Equity Council for the college where he facilitated the college’s student equity plan and created the department of equity and special populations. 

Prior to joining the Ohlone Community College District, Dr. Bishop served as associate dean of academic support and retention at the University of La Verne and taught journalism and mass media studies full time for seven years. He continues to serve as adjunct faculty member for the University of La Verne, as well as in the doctoral program at San Diego State University. He also sits as the Chair on the Bethany Theological Seminary Board of Trustees in Richmond, Indiana.

Dr. Bishop has a doctorate in organizational leadership (Ed.D.), master’s in communications and bachelor’s in journalism all from the University of La Verne. He grew up in Los Angeles and lives with his wife and daughter.
